“…a stunning collection of husky emotional songs, with Ward’s powerhouse vocals front and center.” – Billboard Magazine
AWARDED BEST ALBUM (1995 ) – Miami New Times
In her song “Goodbye Mary Jo,” Diane Ward (also our Best Female Rock Vocalist) proclaims, “I don’t need nobody to be somebody.” Perhaps she ought to dedicate the line to the major record labels that have somehow managed to overlook her passionate, throaty vocals and her distinctive songwriting. Rather than sitting around and waiting for the majors to call, however, Lady Di independently recorded and released the ten-song CD Mirror. The album tracks one powerhouse cut after another Swooping vocal pyrotechnics transform “When I’m Needing Someone” from a whispery confessional into a chilling, tortured scream; growling self-recrimination reverberates throughout the scalding “Damn Me”; “I Will Wait for You” melts into soothing acceptance; “Pick Me Up” cries for help with the urgency of a 911 call. Ward fans have waited for a release such as this for years; record deal or no, Mirror proves Diane Ward don’t need nobody to be somebody.
