[Miami, FL, June 2, 2016] Miami-based rockers, The Three Jacks, have teamed up with Sugarshack Animation to release a powerful animated music video in honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, June 2.
They hope that “Capital Crime” will focus all Americans – gun owners and gun opponents alike – on the real problem that stops our country from making any progress on reducing gun violence:
Gun restrictions limit gun industry profits. Politicians use these profits to pay for their political campaigns. So, no politician wants to do anything about it.
The NRA does not speak for the vast majority of us, whether gun owners or gun opponents. It speaks for the gun industry and the money it makes.
The NRA wants us to keep us shouting at each other and doing nothing, instead of listening to each other and agreeing on rational compromises.
Nothing in our Constitution stops us from enacting comprehensive, effective federal legislation to track all gun transfers and take guns away from criminals and the unfit.
Nothing in our Constitution stops us from making irresponsible gun makers and owners liable for the hurt done to children and other innocent victims.
Rational gun owners and rational gun opponents alike – which is the vast majority of us – can agree on effective rules to allow the responsible ownership of guns for self-defense, hunting, and shooting sports, while making sure that the danger to the innocent is limited to the maximum extent.
But to do that we need to stop shouting and start listening.
It is time for a dialogue.
